TEG In Wales
TEG has a proven track record in Wales, having built two enclosed IVC plants for local authorities, both won under competitive Tender. City and County of Swansea was the first local authority in Wales to have introduced TEG alternative technology for food and green waste treatment, this facility was commissioned in 2006 and in 2008 Gwynedd Council became the first authority in North Wales to divert food and green waste from landfill.
Both TEG plants have played a key role in meeting EU Member State statutory biowaste diversion targets, in addition to avoiding significant fines being levied against Wales for non compliance. Other local authorities in the North and South of Wales have also utilised TEG IVC facilities for compliant interim treatment solutions of biowaste.
TEG is now able to extend its offering to include a choice of AD, IVC or co-located technologies using waste converted into soil enhancers for agricultural, horticultural or land regeneration purposes via IVC or into biogas and liquid fertiliser via AD.
As a result of the effort on recycling and composting, Wales is ahead of its targets to reduce the amount of biodegradable municipal waste (BMW) landfilled. The Welsh Assembly Government is continuing to champion recycling, composting and anaerobic digestion as the key means to achieve the next EU Landfill Directive targets for BMW set for 2012-13. As well as the provision for additional funding for food waste collection, the Assembly Government has agreed a funding package of £26 million to support the procurement and development of a network of anaerobic digestion facilities to turn food waste into renewable energy and a valuable fertiliser.
TEG is now developing IVC and AD plants in Wales. In South Wales we have already signed Heads of Terms of agreement on the development of a co-located AD/IVC solution at Stormydown, near Bridgend, where award-winning local company, Cenin, has already obtained planning permission for an AD plant, which will be operated by Cenin's sister company, Anagest.
Whilst Welsh AD and IVS capacity is under development, TEG is able to provide short term solutions via its existing plants, several of which are within realistic travelling times for local authorities in Wales.
