TEG Environmental, the green technology company, which converts organic wastes into natural organic fertiliser, has secured planning permission to develop its sixth organic composting site at Clayland's Corner, Somerset.
The site itself is owned by Halberton Poultry, which will provide the infrastructure and building construction for the plant, with TEG installing and operating its unique in-vessel Silo Cage composting system. It is envisaged the plant will be operational by the end of 2006 and will have a nominal feed capacity of 8,000 tonnes per annum with an ability to produce 5,500 tonnes of organic fertiliser each year. Fertiliser screening, blending and bagging will also be carried out by TEG, while Halberton will carry out product distribution through its logistics business.
TEG already operates two commercial scale composting plants in the UK, one in Preston and a second in Perthshire, Scotland. Two other sites, Kildare in Ireland and Swansea in South Wales, are currently under construction and are expected to be operational later in the year. Plans are already advanced for a fifth TEG plant to be built in Norfolk.
All six sites are geared towards the production of TEG's EnVigro? a range of high value, high quality organic fertilisers and derivative products which are already used in a wide variety of agricultural and horticultural applications.
TEG Environmental's Chief Executive Mick Fishwick said: "This is another important building block in the development of the TEG business. At the end of last year we achieved ABP (Animal By-Product) approval from the State Veterinary Service for our Preston site and that has opened new high volume markets for TEG from the major waste management companies, supermarkets and multinational food processors, all of which require approved plants to process their waste.
"Our ABP processing business is now developing very rapidly, but there is also a continuous and growing demand for high quality end products such as EnVigro?, with prices rising rapidly, to reach well over £100 per tonne, for organic, peat free products.
"It is with great satisfaction that we and Halberton have finally achieved planning permission at the Clayland's Corner site. The site has huge potential for growth and we are looking forward to bringing another TEG plant on stream."
