TEG picks up a prestigious AIM Award

In-Vessel composting specialist The TEG Group Plc has picked up a prestigious award for Sustainability at the annual AIM awards dinner for companies listed on the Alternative Investment Market.

Now in its 12th year, the AIM Awards Dinner is sponsored by PricewaterhouseCoopers, in association with The London Stock Exchange and 2008 awards were presented by BBC news personality Emily Maitlis.

The Achievement in Sustainability award category was launched for the first time this year to recognise accomplishments in one or more of the three key areas of economic, environmental and social sustainability. The Voting Panel was looking for leadership, innovation and lasting commitment to sustainability and TEG Chief Executive Mick Fishwick was delighted when his company carried off the award.

"TEG is at the leading edge of commercial scale composting of organic waste with its unique Silo Cage composting system," he said.  "The last two years in particular have seen spectacular growth for the company as the demand for alternatives to landfill has seen both local authorities and the commercial sectors turning to proven technologies for the disposal of their organic waste.  We are in the vanguard of the movement towards sustainability in the UK and we are delighted that our efforts have been recognised at this prestigious AIM dinner."

TEG Group's main operating company, TEG Environmental, provides an innovative and cost effective solution to the treatment of organic waste.  TEG's award winning Silo Cage composting technology has the capability to process multiple waste streams, in particular domestic and commercial food waste which is mixed with green waste from local authorities to create a nutrient-rich natural compost that can be used in agricultural, horticultural or domestic applications.

TEG's own plants are currently operational in Lancashire, Perthshire and Yorkshire, where they accept waste from customers, including local authorities, water companies and food manufacturers.  The company has installed systems for local authorities in Swansea and Gwynedd and for a poultry company in Norfolk.

TEG's technology has full EU ABP (Animal By-Product) approval.  The company has achieved BSI PAS 100 QP (the British quality standard for composting) at Todmorden and Perth with approval imminent at its Preston site. This enables compost produced at the approved sites to be marketed as a product rather than a recycled waste stream monitored by the Environment Agency.

The composted product is marketed by TEG's sister company, NOFCO (The Natural Organic Fertiliser Company), to agricultural, horticultural and domestic markets. NOFCO products contain a wide variety of beneficial micro-organisms, which help build healthy soil and improve yield in both agricultural and horticultural applications as well as reducing the incidence of plant diseases.
